Shred Technicians…. Does Your Shred Company Set High Enough Standards for Employment?

A truck pulls up and a driver from a shred company jumps out and carries away your papers, hard drives, or other electronic devices and you never see them again. Or maybe you drop off damaged or defective products to a plant and never see the destruction process or who is handling your materials.

Why Is This A Concern?

There have been stories of drivers or technicians from shredding companies who have sold products on the gray market causing harm to a businesses’ reputation and brand.

Unfortunately, there are numerous uncertified shredders who sell hard drives, documents and more to be hauled out of the country on barges and in shipping containers rather than destroying them. This impacts not only the security of your business, but it harms the environment as well.

At American Shredding, we take security very seriously and this includes the hiring of our employees. From third party background checks to random drug testing, we here at American Shredding set a very high standard when it comes to employment.

Our Employee Hiring and Screening

  • Employees must sign a Confidentiality Agreement before hire

  • Drivers must meet federal and state licensing and reporting requirements

  • Employees are drug screened at hire and randomly screened throughout tenure

  • We run third party background checks

  • Employees must pass federal background screens with finger printing and eQIP, OF306, FCRA approval

  • Drivers, helpers, and processing employees must wear company uniforms and photo ID badges

  • We maintain written policies for all employees that must be read and agreed to

  • Screened and bonded employees undergo rigorous security training

In addition:

  • All of our trucks have GPS so we know where our drivers are at all times

  • All of our plants have 24/7 security monitoring both inside and outside so we see where everyone is and what they are doing at all times

  • Chain of custody is documented and human hands never touch your documents until passing through the shredder

Not only are these employment practices important for security but it is also part of earning and retaining key certifications such as NAIDD AAA Certification. This certification is proudly held by all of our plants throughout several states.
