Sometimes we throw around shredding terms like everybody already knows them. Not today! We recently had some inquiries about the differences between a shred event versus a purge. So, we thought we’d take some time and answer that.
A shred event is a community-based event usually sponsored by local businesses, charities, and nonprofits to give communities a secure way to protect their sensitive documents and guard against identity theft.
It’s as simple as locals pulling up to a shred truck and handing over a few boxes of papers to be professionally shredded. For some events, hosts may ask for donations or a small fee to go towards fundraisers and local causes.
This is really a great way to bring your business and your community together. Some events make it even more special with BBQs, live music, and more!
Purge shredding is the process of shredding many paper documents all at once normally from one location and for one business or company. This is different than a recurring shred service because it’s a one-time occurrence, rather than an ongoing scheduled service. It can happen any time of year and be booked for on-site or off-site shredding.
To break it down simply, a shred event is a community event while a purge is for private businesses and companies.
American Shredding does both and would love to help you set up a shred event with our Shred Event Coordinators including marketing assistance and more. Check out our Shred Event Calendar to see where the next event is happening in over six states.
Or schedule a one-time purge where our trucks show up and we do all the heavy lifting for you! You’ll receive a Certificate of Destruction as well as a recycling report so you can feel confident that your papers were handled the right way.
